Stretch marks when you are pregnant
Do you want to know how to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy but are not sure where to start? You may know several women around you who have these annoying stretch marks.
There are several techniques and products that can be put on your stomach or skin to counter stretch marks. In fact, more than half of women have scars following the birth of their child.
What causes stretch marks?
They develop when the skin is stretched too quickly. When the fetus is growing, for example, the skin is put to the test. Stretch marks are small tears in the skin’s network.
What colors are usually stretch marks?
People with a darker skin tone have lighter, even white, stretch marks, while people with lighter skin tend to have reddish or pinkish skin.
Genetic
Many experts suspect genes as a big factor in this skin problem. If your mother has a strong tendency to stretch marks, it is normal to believe that you too will have these beautiful marks of life. Stretch marks are often caused by a lack of elasticity in the skin.
Weight gain during pregnancy
Some women take much more weight than others during their pregnancies. A myth in Canada is that a woman who carries a child should not deprive her of eating whatever she wants, as if she should eat for two. Alas, it is necessary to believe that it is necessary to eat so much to give birth to a healthy baby.
The problem with weight gain is the speed with which you take the extra weight. This can greatly increase the chances of having stretch marks.
Other factors that cause stretch marks
- Being overweight before pregnancy
- The lack of hydration
- Malnutrition
What products can be used to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy
- Oils and creams
Creams help greatly reduce the appearance of stretch marks. It is essential to check the compatibility of products with breastfeeding, as this could be dangerous for the baby.
Moisturizing hand creams are not suitable for countering stretch marks because they only work on the surface, while stretch marks form deeper in the dermis of the skin.
- Be hydrated and exercise weekly
The pregnant woman has to drink a pretty impressive amount of water every day and should practice regular physical activity appropriate for pregnancy to counteract rapid weight gain.
- Good food monitoring
A healthy diet will help to improve the elasticity of the skin, it is also advisable to eat on regular basis fruits and vegetables in large quantities.
Stay hydrated
Eat a healthy diet
Eating a healthy diet during pregnancy can help prevent stretch marks by providing your body with the essential vitamins and minerals it needs to maintain healthy and elastic skin. A diet that is rich in vitamins C and E, as well as zinc, can help promote collagen production, which can help keep your skin elastic. Additionally, eating foods that are high in protein and healthy fats can also help support healthy skin. Some examples of foods that are high in these nutrients include:
- Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes)
- Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
- Dark leafy greens (spinach, kale)
- Nuts (almonds, walnuts, peanuts)
- Seeds (chia, pumpkin, sunflower)
- Fish (salmon, tuna)
- Avocado
It’s worth noting that a healthy diet during pregnancy will not only help prevent stretch marks but also provide the necessary nutrients for the healthy development of the baby.
Exercise regularly
Exercising regularly during pregnancy can help prevent stretch marks by keeping your skin elastic and also by helping you maintain a healthy weight. Regular physical activity can also increase blood flow to the skin, which can help nourish the skin and promote collagen production. However, it’s important to consult with your obstetrician before starting any new exercise routine during pregnancy, and to avoid high-impact exercises or those that may be risky for you and your baby.
Some safe exercise options for pregnant women include:
- Walking
- Swimming
- Yoga
- Prenatal Pilates
- Low-impact aerobics
These types of exercises can help keep your body strong and flexible, which can support your skin’s elasticity. Additionally, maintaining a healthy weight and muscle tone can help your body better handle the changes it goes through during pregnancy, which can also help prevent stretch marks.
Moisturize
Moisturizing your skin can help prevent the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy by keeping your skin hydrated and supple. When your skin is hydrated, it becomes more elastic, which can help reduce the likelihood of stretch marks forming. Look for moisturizers that contain ingredients such as cocoa butter, shea butter, or coconut oil, as they are known to be particularly effective in preventing stretch marks.
It’s important to apply moisturizer to your belly, hips, thighs, breasts, and any other areas that may be prone to stretch marks, at least twice a day, especially after showering or bathing. Also, it’s best to use a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and safe-for-pregnancy moisturizer, to avoid any potential skin irritation or allergic reactions.
Additionally, it’s important to note that moisturizing is not only helpful for stretch marks prevention but also for the overall health of your skin during pregnancy, which can be affected by hormonal changes and extra stretching.
Which parts of the body are more prone to stretch mark formation?
The belly, the breasts, the inner thighs, and the hips are the most likely places to develop stretch marks. It is advisable to apply the cream once or twice a day to the most affected places. Despite the difficulty of seeing the impossibility of making them disappear completely, they can be attenuated.
What to do when you already have stretch marks?
If creams have no effect on your stretch marks, there are certain solutions to reduce their presence. Your doctor may refer you to a dermatologist, for example, since different treatments may be prescribed, such as:
- The application of cream more potency, mainly containing vitamin A
- The Fraxel laser
- Microdermabrasion
How to hide temporary stretch marks?
There are a few ways to temporarily hide stretch marks, including:
Self-tanning lotions or sprays: These can be used to darken the area around the stretch marks, making them less noticeable.
Concealers: You can use concealers that match your skin tone to cover up stretch marks.
Clothing: Wearing clothing that covers the affected areas, such as high-waisted pants or a bikini bottom with a higher cut, can help hide stretch marks.
Makeup: If you want to go for a more dramatic look for an event, you can use makeup to cover up stretch marks. You can use a primer to help the makeup stay put, and then use a concealer and foundation to hide the stretch marks.
It’s worth noting that these are temporary solutions, and they will not make the stretch marks disappear completely. Also, it’s important to be mindful of the products you are using, as some of them may contain harmful chemicals or may not be safe for your skin during pregnancy.
In conclusion
Your stretch marks are the most beautiful brands of experience that you can show, you have, or you will give life, they are the price to pay to have your protege. You can however reduce the appearance with these few ideas, but any time, never forget that you are beautiful and with your small defaults!

I’ve been using Dermalmd stretch mark serum while pregnant and not only have I not received one single stretch mark, it also has removed my tiger Mark’s on my thighs/glutes and also has helped blend a horrible scar I have on my breast from surgery. The scar isn’t completely gone but there is a very noticeable difference.
